From Access to Agency

Engineering Financial Intelligence for the Campus Community

Grand Prize ₦500,000
The hackathon question

How might AI help students and young campus entrepreneurs turn basic financial access into real financial agency?

The Focus

Most students already have some form access to money, a bank account, a mobile wallet, maybe a small side hustle that keeps paying them. But very few of them actually understand their own money patterns, and thus only few make informed decisions with what they have. This track challenges teams to build AI that turns that basic access to money into real financial capability and literacy, specifically for students, campus entrepreneurs, and young people just starting to earn.

Teams are free to choose their own interface and approach, app, dashboard, voice tool, or anything else that fits their idea.

Nigerian student example

A 300-level student at a Nigerian university runs a small side business, reselling phone accessories, or doing laundry for hostel mates, and gets paid via bank transfer. She has a bank account and a growing transaction history, but no way to see her actual monthly earnings pattern, no credit trail to access even a small loan for stock (if it ever came up), and no idea if she's saving enough to cover the next semester's expenses.

A well-built AI tool could translate that raw transaction data into plain, actionable guidance, real average income, safe spending limits, a savings target tied to the school calendar, or an early flag when spending drifts off track. Same bank account, right? but now she can actually make decisions based on what she understands.
